30 Week check up

Went fine. Baby weighs 3lbs 10oz. Right in the normal range.
My test results have been so low on my finger pricking I asked if there was a way the gestational diabetes test could be wrong and I don't have gestational diabetes...? Answer- I most likely have a very mild case. I am still thinking the verdict is out on this... but doc says maybe my dietitian will let me go to pricking my finger once a day vs four.
I would be happy with that. But... when I am supposed to test below 140 and the highest I have been is 116 and that was right after I woke up from a nap I wonder at the validity of their testing process. ( as you can tell I am totally okay with being on a diet that limits my milk intake!) :) Cheese isn't the same!
I did gain 3lbs! So the baby is growing, or is that me?
We bought a crib from one of our friends from Jeff's work this weekend. Will have pictures soon. Very excited about the money we saved... :)
Jeff must have been glad to, he picked out two very cute little jumpers @ Macy's. (they have strawberry's on them Leanne!) Of course they to were on sale for $4.99 for both! :) Could not pass them up!
Tried to post the ultra sound but won't go through. Will see if Jeffery can do it later. :)

30 Weeks

Allison goes in for an ultrasound this week for a routine check.

We have decided that her being diagnosed with gestational diabetes was wrong. To fast for 12 hours and then drink the amount of sugar that she had to for the test was entirely unrealistic.

Even so, she is sticking to the nutritionist's diet and will likely lose some weight. She has the diabetic supplies to stick her finger and test her blood sugar before breakfast and following each meal. Each time the test has shown that she is well within the 'safe' blood glucose zone.

We are getting ready to have a baby. The car seat and stroller are on back-order, the crib was purchased from a friend this weekend, and the crib mattress is on its way.

The end of July is getting closer and closer.

Dietitian meeting

Met with my Dietitian today, she was a very nice lady. Made sure to tell me it wasn't my fault or the M & M's I love! Jeff still doesn't buy that! Meeting was over two hours long. I am thinking everyone should have one of these, diabetes or not, very informative...
I feel better, turns out I can eat a lot more that the diet sample from the doctor... I would have had a pretty ruff time limiting my food to the first list I saw.
She said she isn't to worried about me because I was so low on the first two test. Said I might even lose weight but not to worry the baby will get all it needs.
I do have to poke myself four times a day to test my levels but on the up side if anyone ever needs this little machine, which is not cheap, I have one! :) It is pretty small, about the size of my "wallet"! (that is the the carrying case) At least the little poker thing(we do not use the word needle) is really small and I don't have to look at it while it mutilates my finger!
She even gave me some recipes for a chocolate moose of sorts and a fruit smoothy! She knew just looking at me that I couldn't go 6-8 weeks without chocolate! Must be in my eyes!!!
I have to check in with her weekly with my numbers and what food I ate in case something needs to be adjusted.
The diet is a little like that protein diet. No fruit juice though... I was worried about not getting enough milk, I need my milk as you all know... but she showed me a few ways around that. Not as much as I would like but I will take what I can!
Next doctor apt is Tuesday, we are going to measure and guess how big this baby in going to get.
That should be interesting. I am not going to let Jeff go with me as if the baby is really big as previously stated it will be his fault and my first instinct would be to hit him! :) I love you husband. XXXOOO

Gestational Diabetes

Well I have it. Just heard from the doctor. I failed two out of the four blood tests.

My results What they shouldn't be
73 95^
145 180^
164 155^
172 140^

I have to go in an get some information and speak to a dietitian I am guessing. Hope to control it with diet not shots. I will be curious to see how I have to test my levels.. not more needles please! Have been reading on the web about possible problems that are associated. I do not recommend doing that. This may be why I have only gained 8lbs. I thought it was because I was watching what I was eating!
At least I had a piece of my birthday cake yesterday!!! :)
Will keep you posted!

Allison's Birthday

It is Allison's Birthday today! She enjoyed all of the Birthday wishes from so many of her friends and family.

The baby enjoyed them as well.

We had Sunday brunch at Morello Bistro on Greenwich Avenue. The building was originally a bank.

A scene or two from the movie 'Old Dogs' starring John Travolta and Robin Williams was shot in the restaurant when it was known as Gaia in 2008. If you aren't familiar with the movie it is because the release date is scheduled for Nov. 2009.

The waitstaff surprised us both with a candle and "Happy Birthday" written in chocolate on her plate of Bomboloni. How did they know?

Bumblebee

Here is Allison in her bumblebee / Hawkeye outfit this morning. She is showing off her blooming Ponderosa lemon tree.

She went into NYC last night with her co-workers to see the 37th Annual Decorator Show House. She was able to survive the train ride down and back as well as the walk through the 20,000 sqft 5 story town home.

The baby is very active around meal time with many 'thumper-like kicks' to let her mom know that she is hungry or happy to have been fed.

We are looking forward to the next 8-10 weeks and have to start buying those essentials for the arrival of our daughter.

Another test/ Appointment today

I have to go back and do another test for gestational diabetes. i failed the first one. This one will be three hours! How I will keep from passing out I don't know. I have to have my blood drawn every hour for three hours... :( As far as I know they don't have any other drink the the orange one... Leanne said something about lemon, not in Greenwich... I may have to take the day off, it took me a couple of hours to get over the first test. Hopefully they won't take 5 tubes of blood every hour!
Jeff says I eat a lot of candy... M & M's are not candy! :) I didn't fail by a lot but I did anyway.
Little disappointed, I am doing very good with my weight gain so I wasn't to worried about this test. I guess we will know more after the longer test. If I fail that to I will be put on a diabetic diet. How fun does that sound?!! :)

Doctor said I am carrying the baby very well and she thinks it will be a big one. We will do an ultra sound in two weeks so she can do all of the measuring to get a better guess. I know my family hasn't really ever had small babies but I am blaming the size of the baby on Jeff!

Advise?

My first unwanted advise, from a man no less. Make sure I read to the child, if I speak a foreign language make sure I teach the child... and on... no really? All while sitting in the doctors office with my book in hand!!! Hello does the man not recognize a "do not talk to me sign" when he sees it?
Good thing: nice delivery man wished me a happy mother's day and much joy!! :)
I also happen to like how cars will stop for me now when I am walking... such power this belly welds!
Hey, I don't know if any one besides Meliska told me that 'orange drink' was going to make me sick to my stomach!! :) Getting better now... how cruel to make a hungry pregnant woman not eat for over 9 hours and then feed her something that doesn't like being in her tummy! :)

28 weeks

I go in for my gestational diabetes test this morning and we are already hungry! Shocker. Will be done soon. Feeling good as long as I remember not to try to suck in my stomach muscles! It is fun to make baby move around that way though. To much squeezing I guess. :)

Grahm is here early!!

Kassie has had Grahm this morning. 34 weeks 5-1/2" lbs. All are doing well. He is early so in NICU. Her mom was having some issues and she had to fly home a lot. I am so very glad everyone is doing well.
I am doing much better, I had the flu early last week. Just for a couple of days. Thank goodness I didn't have morning sickness!
Baby is growing it seems daily. Will take picture tonight and post both. Jeff has hurt his back pretty bad... what a pair we make, pregnant woman trying to help bent over man! Sometimes we laugh so hard we are crying! Literally.
I have a diabetes test this week. and my regular appointment next week. Seems to be going along nicely if you ask me?? My tummy is really felling stretched, I always feel for Karla when I think I am uncomfortable, with those twins in her belly. Puts things in perspective, for a little while. :)
