Daddy got to go along!!!

 Forty Steps Newport RI, yes it was that steamy.

 Kids were great made it the whole way.  Well 3 of the 3.5 but we turned around...we were due at Fort Adams at 11 am

 Largest fort to be made in US.  Did not fire a canon in war so is not a national park, all private funding.

 So many canons left over they made them into fences.

 Best fortifications of any fort of its day.  (1777) Was supposed to take  2 years and $50,000 to build, it took 5 years and 3 million dollars.  That is from memory so it might not be right.

 Top of the wall, overlooking Newport.  Yep, that is Uncle Stephen,Aunt Kate, Stephen and Kaedryn. Was great to get to see them!

 This is one of the smaller canons, the one in this room would have been much bigger. No way those guys had any hearing left.

 You can rent this space out for a party if you are in the neighborhood.

 Beginning of the listening tunnels, yes we got to walk through them, it was nice and cool and dark and got shorter as you went....so cool.

 Pete was the leader of our 'side' of the tunnels he thought it was awesome.  See how close his head is too the top, it is hard to get a good picture while bending over trying not to trip in the dark.... Pieper and Daddy were on the other 'side'.

Happy Forth.  What a start to wandering Wednesday.  Just got lucky to get a great start.  And yes, we did all this in one day.  :)
