Peck Island Lighthouse, 'sparkplug' style
Ospreys, they were really struggling for a few years but they seem to have made a comeback, at least in this area.
There she blows!
Our lunch tree. Most of the wooded area on this island is a bird sanctuary so you can really only walk along the beach and where the light house is. We are sitting on piles of shells... waves really. Kids were in heaven and I remembered to bring ziplocks!

This is the second lighthouse built here the original one is underwater. How great is that tree.
That is Long Island over there, you just can't see it!
Some of the islands had been farms in the past. The cattle they had would roam
from island to island at low tide and the farmer would have to use
canoes to get to some of his cows at milking time. (I laughed out loud) Only one island in
the surrounding(around 25 islands) still has fresh water on it. Most are bird sanctuaries
but some of the really small ones have summer houses on them. They look
like they are perched on rocks.
It was such a hot day even out there on the island but in the stone house it was cool when the breeze came through the window. Kids figured that out really fast.
Stove left by the last owner. No rust, even with all of the salt water.
Upstairs had four bedrooms... we couldn't go all the way to the top, they are working on the solar light in the top.

The Osprey nest on top looks like part of the architecture of the dock. The babies of this nest had left about two weeks ago...
So many horseshoe crabs... big and small, most had been eaten by birds.
Tavern Island, was used as a speak easy during Prohibition and has been
inhabited since before the revolution. There is still a canon on the
island used notify ships and to help them get into the harbor... It has
town water and electricity and is for sale for 11 million in case you
had some spare cash. Bargain really when you consider Marilyn Monroe
and other stars are rumored to have partied here when Billy Rose owned
it....(entertainment dude)
Heading
back. That is an old coal factory, been vacant for years because no
one is willing to buy it and have to clean up all the hazardous waste
that might be there, but there were a lot of Osprey's there.
The kids said they has a lot of fun but as I am sure you can tell, Mom really enjoyed the history today!
